The Mare Herd

Nora ~ 2014 Black Pecheron X mare 16 hh.

(Available as part of the herd's partial dispersal!)

Nora is an exceptionally gentle, strong & patient horse. She will take the buggy in to town (and ignore the passing semi trucks)  or ride out in the pasture. She just isn’t as quick at working cattle as the smaller, hotter, horses.  A real pleasure to be around, but just don’t get into a hurry, because she sure isn’t.

"Xiqua" ~ 2006 Lusitano mare 15.1 1/2 hh.

(Sold. Has gone to Chicago as part of the herd's partial dispersal!)

Roy: "I bought her as an untrained 13 year old. We had an instant connection I guess, I really admired her conformation and also her sire and dam, both very nice horses, see their pictures & APSL scores. Refined head with straight profile, with plenty of width between the eyes & jaw bones. An exceptional neck, arched on top but not meaty and thick in the throat latch area, which makes arching of the neck and vertical flexion of the face almost a forgone conclusion. Good withers and shoulder angle, keeping the saddle in place and the girth well back from the point of elbow so that skin irritation is not caused in that area."

"Steale Magnolia" ~ 2005 palomino Lusitano/Arabian mare

(Sold. has gone to Illinois!)

(palomino IALHA reg, mare sired by Sapphiro and out of an Arab mare.)

She is double registered, also registered Half Arab with the Arabian Horse Assoiation.

"Maggie" is a terrific mother and a great milker, putting a lot of growth into her foals right from the start. Along with lending them some of her beauty and color!

Maggie is going under saddle... Roy has ridden her in the arean as well as outside. Would probably need an intermediate to experienced rider to progress her training at this point.

"Honey" ~ 2018 Marchador mare.

(Sold. Has gone to Chicago as part of the herd's partial dispersal!)

Stands 15.1hh.

Beautifully balanced in her build, she shows great poise and movement, as a true athlete. Not started under saddle so far, but would benefit from a trainer who has the time and skill to really bring out the best in her.

"Valliya" ~ 2003 Lusitano/ Quarther Horse mare 15hh. Sold, Valliya has gone to her new home in Kansas!

Daughter of Othelo,  half sister to Xiqua. A nice little mare with a can do attitude. Trained in jumping and a little dressage I believe. I was told that she was the favorite horse to ride of the exchange students from Belgium, that came to the farm in Virginia to ride.

"Fantasia Alazne" 2014 Lusitano Mare 15.1/2 "hh (will be staying with Roy.)

"My first Lusitano mare and my best cow horse, partially due to the fact that we have done everything together for the past 5 years.
Very responsive, sensitive and amiable. I have hopped on her bare back, with a piece of twin or sometimes nothing at all, and cantered back to the barn to get some tool that we needed out in the pasture. A very kind and loving horse, that I will trust with about any job that needs done, and most anyone, with some experience, that visits here and wants to ride. I rode her out to the east cow pasture, pulled off the saddle, replaced it with the harness and cart (from Abi’s mare) and drove her right off  (that is the driving picture) NO preparation necessary. One of those horses you just can’t do without." Watch her videos!

"Sabella Sopresa" 2017 Lusitano/Quarter horse 14h 3"h. (will be staying with Roy.)

Smoky black Lusitano/QH  mare ( Alazne’s daughter )  14.3 hh. and still growing.
Very friendly, inquisitive personality; will come to you out of the pasture. A little cow horse from the very beginning.  She would help with working our cows when little, and I would put a halter on her and took her along, with mama Alazne, to work the neighbors cattle when she was quite young.  They can learn a lot that way, and when I started her riding, she just took to it like it was nothing. Being just a three year old, she is still in the bosal more than the bit. She is very well built, very balanced movement
